a classic holden?

This ute has been rusting quietly away for nearly 40 years, it was here when part of Yamma Station was resumed to be turned into irrigation farms in 1970. It looks as though someone has done a "Basil Fawlty" on it - though with an axe rather than a tree branch.

Through extensive research I find it is an FB Holden, built in 1960-61.

Your ute looks a lot like how I feel! I'm a 1927 model who has seen better days. I like this photo. You begin to imagine the chores it has been used for over the years and how it came to be in that spot. Did it just stop one day and not get going? Or was it taken out in the field and abandoned?Anyway, it's a shot that tells a story.

Dee, Old Blue would have been used on the land when it was Sheep Station - probably carried sheep dogs on the back - there were no made roads, just dirt tracks at best. The ute must have expired at less than 10 years old and now has no wheels, seats, motor - everything has been stripped out and seeing it is so far from anything, it would have been done by the owners of the ute. I think it probably came to grief while out doing some job, no one would bother to abandon it in this isolated place (google earth S35 02.05', E146 02.1')
