transcontinental cow

First we thought this strange looking cow belonged to our neighbour. He has limousin cattle plus a mixture of other breeds - this cow could be a brahman limo cross. She was very nervous, jumped over or through fences and once in the yards tried climbing out and demolishing gates. She didn't belong to the neighbour but she did have a NLIS (national livestock identification scheme) tag. The tag microchip showed she belonged to the Broome Port Authority in Western Australia so she was a very, very long way from home but acted loopy enough to have run that far, about 5,000km.
Further research showed she had been bought by someone near Carrathool and he had his cattle on 'the long paddock' a few months back with a Jerilderie drover who had left this cow and her brand new calf behind. The owner said she was bred on Fossil Downs in the Kimberley Ranges and is a Droughtmaster not a crossbred - no wonder she was flighty, probably hadn't seen people for most of her life. The drover came to collect them, we got the cow in the truck and he had to shut the gate quick to stop her rushing back out but open it to let the calf in, it took a while but we finally had both safely in the truck. So she was off on her travels again.

Well she's a very peculiar looking cow. Imagine having a whole herd full of funny looking things like that!
