amherst cemetery

We searched and searched the cemetery, through neatly pigeonholed religious denomination after denomination but had no luck finding the ancestors. It dawned on us that they might not have a marked grave until right at the top of the hill, separated by 100 metres from the rest, we came upon six Independant graves and
found them.

looking for ancestors

We asked for directions to the Amherst cemetery at the Talbot Garage Sale shop. Lots of bargains just waiting to be snapped up here.

fried roses

Or instant potpourri . The rain in December encouraged the rose plants to produce blooms for the first time this summer but alas the rain dried up and the temperatures soared producing this sad shriveled result with the roses.

transcontinental cow

First we thought this strange looking cow belonged to our neighbour. He has limousin cattle plus a mixture of other breeds - this cow could be a brahman limo cross. She was very nervous, jumped over or through fences and once in the yards tried climbing out and demolishing gates. She didn't belong to the neighbour but she did have a NLIS (national livestock identification scheme) tag. The tag microchip showed she belonged to the Broome Port Authority in Western Australia so she was a very, very long way from home but acted loopy enough to have run that far, about 5,000km.
Further research showed she had been bought by someone near Carrathool and he had his cattle on 'the long paddock' a few months back with a Jerilderie drover who had left this cow and her brand new calf behind. The owner said she was bred on Fossil Downs in the Kimberley Ranges and is a Droughtmaster not a crossbred - no wonder she was flighty, probably hadn't seen people for most of her life. The drover came to collect them, we got the cow in the truck and he had to shut the gate quick to stop her rushing back out but open it to let the calf in, it took a while but we finally had both safely in the truck. So she was off on her travels again.

thirteen good mums

We took fifty cows away from their calves (weaning time) and put them over the road. They weren't keen to leave their babies behind even though I kept telling them another one would arrive in a three or so months time and this was "me time" for them. Next morning eight had gone back to the calves in the high security section of the yards - they had got through the fence into Barbics' then pushed at a gate until the chain gave way. The gate was repaired with wire. This morning there were only fourteen (14) cows left over the road - they must be the dozy ones. Waiting at the wired up gate were thirteen good cows and the remainder either at the yards or somewhere in Barbics just eating and having "me time".

Where have all the clouds gone? They would come in handy for more picturesque sun rises, sunsets and some rain would be useful.
